Rosie began her career as an educator in 1970, teaching Physical Education and Coaching at Christopher Dock Mennonite High School (CDMHS) in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Rosie coached several field hockey and softball teams to tournament championships during her coaching tenure at CDMHS. The innovative curriculum that she initiated at the high school in the early 80’s is still being implemented today. As an educator, Rosie also taught Elementary Physical Education, second grade, Adult Education, and GED Preparation to High School Dropouts enrolled at YouthBuild Portland, Maine.
Rosie’s engagement in the Social Services sector began in 1991, as an Employment Specialist. Since 2006, she served as a Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Maine. Colleagues in the Maine Division of Vocational Rehabilitation at the Lewiston Career Center have lauded Rosie as the “heart and soul” of the office because of her passion for creating and cultivating a professional and “people first” work environment.
In 2009 she was introduced to the World of Work Inventory, as this instrument was being used as part of the career assessment process for Vocational Rehabilitation clients.
As the facilitator of the Career Exploration Workshop (CEW), Rosie developed and implemented an effective client friendly approach to the interpretation of the WOWI®. She interacted with over 300 clients, guiding individuals to a broader and more comprehensive view of themselves and their potential in the world of work. A recent participant in the CEW commented, “Because of Rosie’s engaging and clear style of explaining the results of the WOWI®, I realized that even though I had not been successful in my first attempt to go to college, I now possessed the tools to be a successful college student. I also realized how important it was for me to put my own stamp on my work, no matter what career I pursued.” (J. Thomas, VR client)
In October, 2013, Rosie was certified by World of Work, Inc., as Workshop Leader, to provide training to career professionals in both the public and private sectors. Since becoming certified, she has conducted numerous trainings across the state of Maine to effectively utilize the WOWI® to assist clients choose viable work and career goals.
Following a training with Vocational Rehablitation Counselors (State of Maine) participants were asked: “Would you recommend this program to other Bureau of Rehabilitation Services Staff?” 100% of the VRC’s answered “Yes.” This positive response to Rosie as a Workshop Leader has been repeated in trainings at Augusta Adult Education and Goodwill Industries of Northern New England.
